Netherlands' KLM Says to Halt All Tel Aviv Flights from March 1
The Dutch airline cited "operational and commercial" reasons for the decision, a news agency reported — though the move raises fresh questions about aviation confidence in the region amid ongoing instability across the Middle East.
"KLM continuously adapts its global network to market demand and operational circumstances. At this time, it is not commercially and operationally feasible for KLM to operate flights to Tel Aviv," a KLM spokeswoman said.
The suspension effectively cuts off KLM's service to Ben Gurion Airport, Israel's primary international gateway, dealing a further blow to the country's air connectivity as carriers worldwide continue to reassess their exposure to the region.
This is not the first time KLM has pulled back from the route. In January, the airline briefly halted Tel Aviv operations after concluding that overflying several Middle Eastern countries posed unacceptable safety risks — a concern that has shadowed multiple European carriers in recent months.
When pressed by reporters on whether safety considerations once again played a role in the latest suspension, KLM declined to comment — a silence likely to fuel speculation over the true scope of the airline's concerns beyond the commercial rationale it has put forward.
